The story of Wapusk and Mahihkan

Summer! The polar bears usually spend the warm summer months on Hudson Bay’s Kaska Coast either in the cold water or escaping the sun in the shadow of the willows, but when there is a beluga whale on shore, the feast begins. The local swampy cree call the polar bear “Wapusk”, and with so much food around, Wapusk doesn’t mind if Mahihkan, the grey wolf, joins him. A total of fifteen polar bears and six wolves fed on this carcass for one week, calling it a truce during the days of plenty.
